John Schuhmann, NBA.com — 21 (上周: 20)
Brett Siegel, Clutch Points — 22 (上周: 17)

Week in Review: Spurs struggle in the clutch in letdown week to start Rodeo Road Trip
It was an exciting week off the court with the acquisition of De’Aaron Fox, but the Spurs still fell at the buzzer in two of their three losses to start the Rodeo Road Trip.
Welcome to the Week in Review: a Monday feature that looks back at the week that was for the San Antonio Spurs, takes a look at the week ahead, and more. Enjoy!
Week 15: Despite going 1-2, the Spurs showed signs of life at home by blowing out the Bucks to end a rough month of January, sandwiched by a hard-fought loss to the Clippers and heartbreaker against Heat, where Bam Adebayo hit a buzzer beater to down the Spurs, who were missing Victor Wembanyama to a respiratory illness that would impact his performance this week as well.
Week 16: 1-3 (22-28, 12th in West)
109-128 loss @ Memphis Grizzlies
Recap: In arguably the only “acceptable” loss of the week, the Grizzlies continued to be one of the biggest thorns in the Spurs’ side when even remotely healthy, as the Spurs couldn’t take care of the ball against Memphis’ pressure-heavy defense, coughing it up 23 times (17 of which were steals) for 34 extra Grizzlies points.
126-125 win @ Atlanta Hawks
Recap: The Spurs finally got some much needed help with De’Aaron Fox making his Spurs debut, and he did not disappoint with 24 points and 13 assists, but they still followed a troubling trend of getting up big in the first half — 20 points in this case — before choking it all away with a bad second half. Still, they did just enough to hold on, and Wemby hit the game-winning free throw in the final seconds before purposefully missing the second to prevent the Hawks from getting a good final look. (At least they won the most important game of the week from a draft standpoint!)
116-117 loss @ Charlotte Hornets
Recap: Perhaps guilty of overlooking an inferior opponent, the Spurs got down big in the first half while the Hornets were white hot from three, but they slowly grinded their way back in the second half. It looked like they may have stollen victory from the jaws of defeat thanks to some heroics from the 2023 Clutch Player of the Year in Fox, but Stephon Castle — who had a career night with 33 points — left Miles Bridges open on the game-winning three, and Fox’s responding buzzer-beater was just a hair too late.
111-112 loss @ Orlando Magic
Recap: For the third time in five games, the Spurs once again fell at the buzzer after a hard-fought game against the also-struggling but physical, lengthy Magic. After a tight first half, the Spurs were close to pulling away after getting up by 13 in the third quarter, but Orlando fought back, getting ahead on their final possession before Wemby — who struggled all week with energy his levels — missed his own chance at a buzzer-beater.
Power Rankings
John Schuhmann, NBA.com— 21 (last week: 20)
OffRtg: 112.3 (16) DefRtg: 114.0 (21) NetRtg: -1.8 (20) Pace: 99.9 (14)
The Spurs are 1-2 on their six-game, rodeo road trip*, falling to six games below .500 for the first time.
Three takeaways
All three games on the trip have been decided by a single point. The Spurs were 8-3 in clutch games through mid-December, but have lost 10 of their last 12 that were within five points in the last five minutes, scoring just 84 points on 104 clutch possessions (0.81 per) over that stretch.
The late-game offense ran through De’Aaron Fox last week, and he put the Spurs up one in Charlotte with a step-back jumper with 7.9 seconds left. But they then yielded a wide-open, weak-side corner 3 to Miles Bridges and lost when Fox’s game-winning 3 came a little too late. The Spurs are one of four teams that rank in the top 10 in both the (lowest) percentage of their opponents’ shots that have come from 3-point range and the (lowest) percentage of their opponents 3-point attempts that have come from the corners. But they also allowed some open looks from the corners early in their win in Atlanta on Wednesday.
The Spurs have the ability to have either Fox or Chris Paul running the offense for the entire game, but they played 38 minutes over their four games last week with neither on the floor. They were outscored by 14 points, scoring just 102.4 per 100 possessions, in those 38 minutes.
The Spurs are now 6-10 against the Eastern Conference, even tough they’ve been outscored by just 1.8 points per 100 possessions over those 16 games. They’ll finish their trip with games against the worst team in the league and the defending champs.
*Editor’s note: The Spurs are four games into the RRT, not three, and it actually includes six more road games through March 1. While there are two “home” games next week, they’re in Austin, then the RRT continues for four more games.
Brett Siegel, Clutch Points— 22 (last week: 17)
The San Antonio Spurs really need to figure things out offensively if they are to be a threat post-All-Star break. It is going to take time for De’Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama to gel with one another, but the rest of this team has played together all season. With Fox helping facilitate the offense, there is no reason why the Spurs’ offense should be struggling the way it is. Maybe a big road win in Boston right before the break could springboard momentum for the Spurs.
Coming up: Mon. 2/10 @ Washington Wizards; Wed. 2/12 @ Boston Celtics
Prediction: 1-1 — The Spurs already beat the Wizards once this season, but that required a 50-point game from Wemby just to win by nine. Hopefully they learned from the Hornets game and don’t overlook an inferior opponent again (especially now that the Wizards are even worse after the trade deadline). Otherwise, they will likely have to wait quite a while to taste victory again since I don’t see them winning in Boston, then they have 8 days off for the All-Star break.
