De’Aaron Fox is nearing a return to five-on-five competition, which would be the final stages of his rehabilitation program.
“He’s getting close,” Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said.
The speedy 27-year-old has not played since a March 12 win over the Mavericks, after which Fox opted for season-ending surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left pinky.

He subsequently strained his right hamstring during an offseason workout in August. The team remains optimistic Fox could make his season debut before the end of the month.
“With the amount of time since his last game, we’re going to be conservative, as we’ve said numerous times, but he’s progressing,” Johnson said. “It gets exciting sometimes when you see someone like that get back on the court and start doing some things with the basketball.”
