What does Victor Wembanyama think about all the talk about his height?

Then-San Antonio Spurs acting head coach Mitch Johnson, left, and Spurs center Victor Wembanyama watch a replay during the second half of an NBA basketball game against the Dallas Mavericks in San Antonio, Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

Talk all you want about Victor Wembanyama’s height, but know this: He finds the topic boring.

“I don’t say I like it,” Wembanyama said. “It is more like over the years it has become a non-subject to me because in my opinion there are so many more interesting things about me.”

The Spurs list Wembanyama at 7 foot 4 this season after saying he was 7-3 1/2 in his first two years. For a while during camp, the club’s website listed him at 7-5, but that has since changed back to 7-4.

Many league observers argue he’s at least 7-5.

For Wembanyama, it’s all just one big snooze fest.

“The truth is sometimes I’m surprised it’s still a conversation because in my mind it doesn’t really make a difference,” he said. “I’m telling the truth – I’m taller than everybody else. That’s all you need to know.”

So while others argue about his height, Wembanyama prefers to just shut out the noise, something he has done often since entering the league as the most hyped rookie since LeBron James started his NBA career in 2003.

How does he do it? By taking breaks from social media, something other players struggle to pull off.

“Yeah, and I understand it,” he said of the difficulty of staying off X, Instagram and other social medial apps. “Because when you have a good game, it’s like free dopamine, you know what I mean? I know people scroll thousands of hours. If you’re scrolling, and you (see) your name and you had a good game, it’s positive feedback. But also for years, I’ve trained my brain to not get dopamine, to not get your brain happy with insignificant things.”

That includes listening to all the chatter about how tall he is.

“I literally never think about my height,” he said. “It’s like when people ask you how is it to be so tall? I don’t know. It’s been this (way) forever.”
