Dylan Harper was the only reinforcement from the injured list to join the guard-deprived Spurs for Friday’s preseason game against Utah.
De’Aaron Fox (hamstring), Stephon Castle (knee), Jordan McLaughlin (hamstring) and forward Jeremy Sochan (calf) have yet to play in the preseason as the club continues to prioritize their health for the start of the regular season.
For now, only Fox seems doubtful for the Spurs’ regular-season opener Oct. 22 at Dallas.
Castle, last season’s NBA Rookie of the Year, appears to be the closest to a return, having banged knees with Victor Wembanyama in the team’s Silver & Black scrimmage Saturday.
“He’s feeling better, which is positive,” coach Mitch Johnson said. “We’ll see how the thing continues to heal and get better. He’s had a heck of a preseason (camp) leading up to it anyway, so he’s not someone I was trying to see a bunch of in the preseason anyway.”
