MIAMI — Victor Wembanyama is hearing MVP chants these days — even on the road.

Wembanyama had 26 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks, Stephon Castle returned after missing two games with an injured hip to score 19 points powered by 9-of-10 shooting from the foul line, and the Spurs routed the Heat 136-111 Monday night for their sixth win in a row.

The Spurs (54-18) led by 30 points in the third quarter on the way to snapping a two-game losing streak at Kaseya Center.

Keldon Johnson and Dylan Harper each had 21 points for the Spurs, who improved to 22-2 since Feb. 1. De’Aaron Fox finished with 14 points and Harrison Barnes had 13.

The Spurs led 76-58 at halftime after four of their players scored at least 12 points, a list headed by Wembanyama and Castle with 13 each. The Spurs led 38-31 entering the second period after eight players scored at least two points and five had at least five.

When Wembanyama went to the free throw line late in the first half, the MVP chants started up. Heat fans quickly drowned them out with boos, but the Frenchman still received plenty of cheers the rest of the way.

Spurs improved to 25-11 on the road and have a four-game winning streak away from the Frost Bank Center. Their last loss on the road was to the New York Knicks on March 1.

Norman Powell led the Heat (38-34) with 21 points off the bench. Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro had 18 each.

Here are three takeaways from the first game of the Spurs’ three Ms road trip: Miami, Memphis and Milwaukee.

1. Pause to consider Wemby’s greatness

The 22-year-old Frenchman became just the third player in NBA history to amass 4,000-plus points and 300-plus 3-pointers in their first 175 career games.

Luka Doncic and Trae Young are the others.

Playing in just his 174th career game, Wembanyama reached the 4,000-point threshold with a one-handed dunk in the first half on a feed from rookie Carter Bryant.

Wembanyama also joined Spurs great David Robinson as the only two players with 4,000-plus points and 600-plus blocks through their first 175 career games.

Those milestones underscore just how great and unique Wembanyama is. Spurs fans should be grateful they once again have a truly dominant player to cheer for after years of also getting to watch Robinson and Tim Duncan.

2. Fox’s sacrifice noted

Fox had plenty of respect around the league before he was traded to the Spurs last year, but if Erik Spoelstra’s pre-game comments are any gauge, he’s held in even higher regard now.

“I think you have to really commend Fox," the Heat coach said. "He’s been a 25-plus point scorer for (three) straight years and then sacrificing to win, he’s averaging 19 a game. People say, ‘Oh, you do whatever it takes to win.’ But I don’t know a lot of players who want to sign up and have their scoring average drop by 7 and be great with it.”

Fox had 10 points after the first quarter, but with Wembanyama and Castle having their way with the Heat defenders, he had just four the rest of the way.

3. No exhaling for these Spurs

The Spurs clinched an outright playoff berth last week and likely will enter the postseason as the No. 2 seed in the West, but they aren’t taking their foot off the pedal just yet.

They need to win six of their final 10 games to secure their first 60-win season since 2016-17, but that’s not the reason they haven’t exhaled yet.

Simply put, they want to continue to improve.

“I think for us, it’s less about looking at our record and more about looking at the games that we’ve lost,” Harrison Barnes said. “I think there’s a lot that we can learn from that.”
