PHILADELPHIA — The Spurs rolled into Philadelphia to end their rodeo road trip Tuesday worn out, bedraggled and ready to go home.
They had a bit of business to take care of first.
Propelled by hot shooting nights from Devin Vassell and Dylan Harper, plus a Victor Wembanyama-led defensive master class, the Spurs blasted the short-handed 76ers 131-91 at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Vassell made 6 of 8 3-pointers on his way to 22 points, while Harper notched 22 of his own off the bench on 8-of-11 shooting as the Spurs ended their rugged rodeo trip with their most lopsided win of the season.
With the victory, the Spurs ended the trip at 8-1, posting a winning record on their annual midseason trek for the first time since 2016-17. The eight victories, meanwhile, matched their most in the history of the trip.
Led by Wembanyama’s imposing defensive presence, the Spurs turned Tuesday’s game into a laugher from the outset.
Wembanyama had six blocks, including four in the first 7½ minutes, as the Spurs raced out to a 78-53 halftime edge.
He added 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals before coming off the floor for good midway through the third quarter.
Tyrese Maxey had 21 points to lead the 76ers, who were without key pieces in Joel Embiid, Paul George and Kelly Oubre.
Earlier in the day, the Spurs turned in a clean sweep of the NBA’s monthly awards, with Wembanyama earning Western Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Month, Dylan Harper earning Rookie of the Month and Mitch Johnson winning Coach of the Month.
It was the spoils for a perfect 11-0 February.
Tuesday, the Spurs gave notice that March has a chance to be pretty special, too.
They were coming off an ugly 114-89 loss at New York on Sunday that snapped their 11-game winning streak.
They bounced back with a 65-point turnaround two nights later in Philadelphia.
With a successful rodeo road trip in the books, the Spurs return home to play the next six games at the Frost Bank Center, all against teams in the playoff or play-in hunt.
Here are three takeaways from Tuesday’s rollicking victory, which returned the Spurs home with a 44-17 overall mark:
1. Wemby’s scoring is (for now) a luxury item
Wembanyama, as noted above, was a defensive dynamo. On paper at least, he had a quiet night on the offensive end.
He went 3 of 5 from the field and turned in his lowest-scoring outing since Nov. 9 against Phoenix.
The five field-goal attempts matched the fewest of Wembanyama’s career, set against Oklahoma City in October 2024.
And yet, Wembanyama ended the night a plus-41.
The dynamic underscores the offense the Spurs are building around Wembanyama, one that is very much centered on him but doesn’t always require him to be the one shooting the ball.
Even without taking a ton of shots, Wembanyama’s gravity wreaked havoc on the Sixers’ defense. It left driving lanes open for Harper and Stephon Castle. It opened up the 3-point line for Vassell and Julian Champagnie and Bryant.
There will probably come a time in the playoffs in which the Spurs will need Wembanyama to carry them a bit more on offense.
Tuesday was not one of those times.
2. With Barnes’ streak over, Bryant benefits
One of the more remarkable streaks in the NBA came to an end Tuesday, as Harrison Barnes missed the game due to left ankle soreness.
That broke a string of 364 consecutive games played for Barnes, the second-longest active iron man streak in the league.
With an opening in the rotation, coach Mitch Johnson turned to rookie Carter Bryant.
Bryant had been used sparingly since the All-Star break, logging single-digit minutes in four of seven appearances leading to Thursday.
The Arizona product made hay of his increased opportunity in Philadelphia, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Bryant had some rough moments, including an ill-advised foul against V.J. Edgecombe on a 3-pointer with 0.2 seconds left in the first half.
Still, there was more good than bad Tuesday from the first-year forward.

3. In battle of top rookies, Harper edges Edgecombe
The ballyhooed rookie matchup between Edgecombe and the Spurs’ Dylan Harper never quite materialized.
Mostly because Harper was so good.
The NBA’s reigning Rookie of the Month was instrumental in getting the Spurs out to a swift start, scoring 11 points in the first quarter.
The newly turned 20-year-old finished with his sixth career 20-point outing and first since Jan. 31 at Charlotte.
Edgecombe had a rougher go of things. Drafted at No. 3 — one spot after the Spurs nabbed Harper — Edgecombe has turned in a stellar rookie campaign so far.
Tuesday wasn’t his night.
He played 20 minutes of the first half, going 2 of 9 for six points before exiting the contest at halftime following Bryant’s foul against him.
Edgecombe and Harper both stand a good chance of seeing their names on All-Rookie lists at the end of the season.
Harper got the better of the battle Tuesday.
