LAS VEGAS –Victor Wembanyama is officially good to go for the 2025-26 season.

The All-Star center told the French publication L’Equipe he has fully recovered from the blood clot in his right shoulder that cut his sophomore season short.

“I’m officially cleared to return,” L’Equipe quoted the 21-year-old Frenchman as saying in a story published Monday. "It just happened – I got the green light from the Spurs’ medical staff just a few hours ago (last Friday).

“Phew, I’ll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again.”

The news was expected after Wembanyama, without going into detail about his medical history, told reporters before the Spurs’ season finale in April that his blood-clot issue was a “slight setback” and that he remained on track to be ready for the start of training camp in the fall.

“I know I’m over with this problem,” Wembanyama said.

The Spurs have also said repeatedly they expected Wembanyama to fully recover from the ailment.

After a vacation to Asia, Wembanyama was at the Spurs practice facility July 7 riding the stationary bike. For the last several days, he’s been in Las Vegas to support the team’s Summer League squad and also work out with some of the other Spurs veterans.

Wembanyama missed the last two months of last season after he was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder after he returned to San Antonio following the All-Star Game in San Francisco.

Wembanyama finished the 2024-25 season averaging 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 3.8 blocks while shooting 47.6% from the field and 35.2% from the 3-point range in 46 games.

The Spurs finished last season 34-48 to miss the playoffs for the six-straight season, the longest drought in franchise history.

With Wembanyama healthy and De’Aaron Fox expected to be fully recovered from offseason hand surgery, the Spurs have high hopes for the 2025-26 season. In addition to their improved health, their roster has been bolstered by the additions of lottery picks Dylan Harper (second overall) and Carter Bryant (No. 14 overall) and big men Luke Kornet (free agency) and Kelly Olynyk (trade with Washington).
