OKLAHOMA CITY — Sleep did not come easily for Spurs guard Devin Vassell the night before the biggest game of his life.
“I was tossing and turning a little bit for sure,” Vassell said.
Vassell and the Spurs can rest easy now. It’s three more sleeps until the NBA Finals.
The Spurs punched their ticket there with a workmanlike 111-103 victory over Oklahoma City in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals on Saturday at the Paycom Center.
Victor Wembanyama led a list of seven Spurs in double figures with 22 points, leading his team back to the Finals after a 12-year absence.
The Spurs face the New York Knicks in Game 1 on Wednesday at the Frost Bank Center.
The path there was improbable for a Spurs team ahead of its time. The Spurs are one season removed from a 34-win season, which followed back-to-back 22-win seasons.

Julian Champagnie had 20 points, including six 3-pointers, and Stephon Castle added 16 for the Spurs, who are headed to their seventh NBA Finals — and first since 2014.
“We have a great team,” Champagnie said. “We’re just staying the course. Playing a good game. … “We love this. We love it. We bust our ass every day. We want to fight and we want to win.”
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 35 points with nine assists in the closeout game, but did not get enough help from his supporting cast to keep Oklahoma City’s title defense alive.

He was good again offensively on Saturday, and anchored another suffocating defensive effort for the Spurs.
Gilgeous-Alexander lived up to his billing as the two-time league MVP in the first half, keeping the listing Thunder afloat with an array of drives and jumpers.
He went into halftime with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting, and was a big reason the Thunder were able to recover from an early 14-point deficit.
Gilgeous-Alexander ended with his third 30-point game of the series. It wasn’t enough to fend off the surging Spurs.
2. Champagnie stars in his role
Game 7s are often swung by role players coming out of nowhere. Champagnie was that player Saturday.
After struggling through the first four games of the series, Champagnie broke out with 22 points in Game 5.
He provided another clutch shooting performance to help Wembanyama close out the Thunder on Saturday. The Spurs got contributions from all over. Keldon Johnson had 11 points off the bench, including a pair of timely fourth-quarter 3-pointers. De’Aaron Fox had 15. Kornet logged only six minutes but provided a key fourth-quarter block of Hartenstein.
Wembanyama’s supporting cast deserves plenty of credit for the Spurs’ Finals trip.

Saturday’s game might have marked the end of this year’s Western Conference finals, but it’s a safe bet it was only the beginning of a burgeoning Spurs-Thunder rivalry.
The teams played 12 times this season, including five meetings in the regular season. The respect — and the bad blood — between them is mutual.
Oklahoma City isn’t going anywhere after its second consecutive conference finals trip.
Same time next year? It wouldn’t be surprising.
