The 7-foot, 250-pound Hartenstein had a clear path to the basket after recovering the ball to cut the deficit to four, but the 7-1, 250-pound Kornet raced down court to record what Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox called “probably one of the bigger plays we’ve had this season.”

“That’s a momentum play,” Champagnie said of Kornet’s block. "If they get that dunk, the crowd gets into it, guys start to feel good, and you never know what happens. Guys make some shots and instead of it being a six-point game it’s a two-point game, a whole different ball game.
“So shout out to Luke. I think that was the biggest play of the game. It took all the life out of the building. That play right there gave us the step we needed to keep the lead and keep pushing.”

“The biggest play of the game might have been Kornet’s block,” Johnson said.
“I was so proud of him, so happy,” Wembanyama said. “That’s the definition of a winning play.”
Fox agreed.
“Luke’s three or four steps behind, Hartenstein’s supposed to dunk that,” Fox said. “That was a momentum shifter. Luke saved us.”
Kornet finished the game with two points and four blocks in six minutes, but his highlight block is a big reason why he’s headed back to the second Finals of his career after helping Boston win a championship in 2024.
“When Julian made that rebound at the end, it was an awesome feeling,” Kornet said. “I’m just really proud of this group. We’ve come a long way.”
