Spurs’ DeAaron Fox says he’s ready to fight through pain again

Oklahoma City Thunder center Isaiah Hartenstein (55) battles for a loose ball with San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox (4) during the first half of Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Friday, May 22, 2026.
De’Aaron Fox is ready to play through pain again when the Spurs host the Oklahoma City Thunder down 2-1 in the best-of-seven Western Conference finals.
“I’m the same as I was before the series started, but I’m able to play,” the All-Star guard said at shootaround Sunday morning. “I don’t feel great, but I’m able to play.”
Game 4 starts at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Frost Bank Center.
Fox made his series debut Friday night, finishing with 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists in 30 minutes in the 123-108 loss. He missed the first two games due to a sprained right ankle left over from the second-round series against Minnesota. He had to leave Friday’s game late in the third quarter after re-aggravating the injury in a collision with the Thunder’s Lu Dort, but he returned in the fourth quarter to grit his way through five-plus minutes before coach Mitch Johnson pulled him for good with 1:51 left and the Spurs trailing by 14 points.
Fox received more treatment Saturday, but his ailing ankle will still be an issue in a pivotal game in the series between top-seeded Oklahoma City and the second-seeded Spurs.
“I listen to the people that get paid to do that stuff and that went to school to do that stuff,” Fox said of the Spurs medical staff. “I listen to them and they do their best to prepare me to be out there.”
Rookie guard Dylan Harper also received the green light to play in Game 4 after fighting his way through a sore groin Friday night and finishing with six points, three rebounds and two assists in 17 minutes.
“Those guys are giving us all they got and I commend them, tip my cap, because they’re competing their ass off and they’re not 100%,” Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said Saturday.
