(Victor Wembanyama)
(De’Aaron Fox)
(Stephon Castle)
(Devin Vassell)
评分:A
(Julian Champagnie)
(Dylan Harper)
(Keldon Johnson)
(Luke Kornet)
评分:A-
(Harrison Barnes)
(Carter Bryant)
(Mitch Johnson)

Playoff Grades: San Antonio Spurs vs. Portland Trail Blazers – Game #1
The San Antonio Spurs started their 2026 playoff run with a 111-98 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. The second-seeded Spurs played well in the opening quarter before cooling off in the second period. Early in the third, the Blazers nearly gained the advantage. Thankfully, a charge led by Devin Vassell helped capture the momentum for San Antonio and the Spurs were able to roll from there.
Stats: Spurs vs. Blazers

Spurs vs. Blazers – Final Grades
Victor Wembanyama
Wembanyama did well in his playoff debut. He was simply a force offensively. He had 35 points in 33 minutes, highlighted by his 5-for-6 showing from deep. The pressure didn’t seem to get to him at all. Wembanyama came out of the gates with passion and never relented. That said, there were some areas where the Frenchman could improve. He turned it over a team-high four times and only had one assist. He pulled down just five rebounds and his defense wasn’t as dominant as we’ve seen. The bottom line is that it was a good performance for Game 1 of his postseason career — but there was room for improvement.
Grade: B
De’Aaron Fox
With his hands a little bit more on the reins than what we witnessed during the regular season, Fox posted a strong outing against the Blazers. He had eight assists, no turnovers and scored 17 points. His shooting was nothing too noteworthy but his all-around efficiency was a plus. He also played better than normal on the defensive end. When Fox is this aggressive, the Spurs become a more difficult team to contend with.
Grade: B+
Stephon Castle
The good: Castle totaled 17 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in 33 minutes. He played well early on to set the stage. Castle getting to the line eight times and hitting all eight was a game-changing contribution. His levels of tenacity and bravery were applause-worthy. The bad: Castle was only 1-for-5 from deep, 3-for-8 on two-pointers. He also turned it over three times. That inefficiency was even worse than it appeared on paper because Portland was basically leaving him open. Furthermore, Castle’s impact on the defensive end was substandard for his typical level.
Grade: B-
Devin Vassell
Just glancing at the statsheet, you’d assume that Vassell struggled. However, the reality of this game was that Vassell was arguably the team’s most valuable contributor. When things got dicey in the third quarter, it was he who came alive. He sparked the Spurs with a pair of blocks and then his shot got going on the other end. While it wasn’t done completely single-handedly, Vassell’s play in the second half was the main reason why the good guys were able to blow it open.
Grade: A
Julian Champagnie
Champagnie did well. He didn’t force anything offensively. While he only shot three times all night, he connected on a pair of three-pointers. He also passed the ball well. Defensively, Champagnie was active. He rebounded and also had three of the team’s six steals. He’s proving that he doesn’t need to be on fire from three-point land to be an asset to the collective.
Grade: B+
Dylan Harper
Although it was a bumpy road at times, Harper came out of his first playoff game with his head above the water. Offensively, he eventually slowed down and scored three baskets while also running the squad competently. Defensively, I thought the rookie was even better. He was using his strength, length and quick hands to make life difficult for the Blazers. Let’s hope that Harper can build on this performance going forward.
Grade: B
Keldon Johnson
It was mostly a night to forget for Johnson. He had only three points on 1-for-4 shooting in 20 minutes. He turned it over twice and his defense was below average. The only silver lining for Johnson was his work on the glass. He finished with seven caroms but it felt like more because he was grabbing contested boards on both ends of the court.
Grade: C
Luke Kornet
Kornet proved his value in the first playoff game. Overall, he looked more athletic and more spry than he had looked down the stretch of the regular season. He was a legitimate force rolling to the rim. Kornet also did good work on the boards and protected the rim well enough. He’s obviously not Wemby but when he played like this, Kornet is capable of holding down the fort for stretches.
Grade: A-
Harrison Barnes
Barnes was a little bit better than his almost invisible numbers would suggest. He had only two points and one rebound in 11 minutes. But I liked Barnes’ aggression on offense; when he got the ball, he made a purposeful decision. Defensively, I thought he was efforting more than usual. That said, he needs to actually add some tangible production in the books if he hopes to avoid being a liability.
Grade: C
Carter Bryant
Bryant got a taste of the playoffs. I thought he did okay. He grabbed a couple of rebounds in four minutes and played above average defense. His only area of outright struggle was the fact that he had three fouls in four minutes.
Grade: C+
Mitch Johnson
Mostly good stuff from Coach Mitch. He helped get Wembanyama and Fox going early. He gave legitimate playing time to Harper off the bench. He even found time for the team’s other rookie. The Spurs didn’t play that great so it’ll be interesting to see if Coach Mitch can make the needed adjustments.
