SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Jeremy Sochan’s fun-loving nature ranked high on the list of things the Spurs liked most about the fourth-year forward.
“I can’t say on camera, but, I mean, it is an everyday thing with Jeremy,” said Spurs guard Stephon Castle, when he was asked Thursday at All-Star weekend to share his favorite Sochan moments. “It’ll be 3 in the morning, we get on the bus and he’ll honk the horn for 10 seconds.
“We’re going to miss him.”
The Spurs waived Sochan on Wednesday. Once he clears waivers, he’s expected to sign a deal with the New York Knicks, ESPN and other media outlets have reported.
The Spurs play the Knicks on March 1 at Madison Square Garden in a game ABC is set to televise nationally.

Castle can’t wait to see his friend again.
“We talked about it already," Castle said. “I told him, if he’s guarding me, it’s going to be iso.”
Although Sochan fell out of Spurs coach Mitch Johnson’s rotation in mid-December, he was a great teammate until the very end, Castle said.
“He handled it as best as he could,” Castle said. “He wasn’t getting the minutes he wanted, but I don’t think his demeanor or his body language really changed in practice. He brought the same energy. He cheered guys on the bench whether he played or not.
“He handled it like a pro.”
Castle and Sochan became good friends after the Spurs selected the former fourth overall in the 2024 NBA Draft.
“That’s my guy," Castle said of Sochan. “We hang out all the time off the court, play video games together. So, it’s tough, but I’m happy to see him in a situation that he feels is better for him and I just want to see him have his joy back while playing basketball.”
