SAN FRANCISCO — Spurs guard Stephon Castle is confident the pelvic contusion he suffered in the first half of the Spurs’ 136-108 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday won’t keep him out for long.

If Castle had his way, he would be back on the court Wednesday at Golden State. That much was still to be determined leaving L.A.

“I’m hoping to play,” Castle said after Tuesday’s contest.

Castle was injured with 4:10 remaining in the second quarter in Los Angeles, taking a frightening fall to the Crypto.com Arena court while blocking a dunk attempt by the Lakers’ Rui Hachimura.

Castle remained on the floor for several minutes before rising to his feet. He walked directly to the locker room on his own.

X-rays on Castle’s back taken at halftime revealed no structural damage. He sat out the second half with what the team termed a pelvic contusion.

In layman’s terms, Castle literally busted his backside to beat the Lakers.

“I was hoping to land on my feet,” Castle said. “It was kind of like a weird fall. I didn’t expect him to (try to) dunk it. That’s what messed me up. I thought he was going to go for the backboard.”

The Spurs were ahead by 25 at the time of Castle’s injury. Seeing their tough-as-nails teammates incapacitated on the floor for such an extended period was jarring to the other Spurs.

“He’s not a guy that we’re used to seeing stay on the ground that long,” Victor Wembanyama said. “Every second that passed, I was a little more worried.”

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said he breathed a sigh of relief when Castle was able to take himself to the locker room under his own power.

“I’m expecting he’ll be pretty sore — more than pretty sore,” Johnson said. “It was good that he walked off and didn’t feel like it was anything else.”

After Wednesday’s trip to Golden State, Castle is slated to return to Los Angeles to play in the Rising Stars Challenge on Friday at the Intuit Dome.

He said he considered himself “day to day.”

“He’s one of the toughest guys I know,” Wembanyama said of Castle. “I’m pretty confident he’s going to come back quick.”

Johnson bemoans Spurs’ lack of All-Star love

Count Johnson among those perplexed at how the Spurs only landed one player on this year’s All-Star roster.

Selected as a starter, Wembanyama will be the Spurs’ lone participant in Sunday’s All-Star tournament in L.A.

“I do think it’s very interesting that De’Aaron Fox and Steph Castle have not been named an All-Star,” Johnson said unprompted before Tuesday’s win over the Lakers.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver named a pair of injury replacements for this year’s All-Star teams, tabbing Houston’s Alperen Sengun to take the place of Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Toronto’s Brandon Ingram to fill in for Golden State’s Steph Curry.

Johnson, who will coach one of the three All-Star teams, noted seven NBA clubs have placed multiple players on the All-Star squad.

The Spurs are not among them, despite the club’s 37-16 record heading into Wednesday and its spot in second place of the Western Conference.

“It’s nothing to take away from anyone who has been named an All-Star, because they’ve all had great years,” Johnson said. “The only way that I can think we are deserving of (only) one All-Star is there must be a lot of people who have Victor Wembanyama as one of the frontrunners for MVP.”
