Spurs guard Stephon Castle was somewhat of a surprise addition to the lineup Wednesday at Golden State, opting to play against the Warriors despite a bruised tailbone he suffered less than 24 hours earlier in a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.
“I felt OK,” Castle said after the Spurs’ 126-113 win over the Warriors. “I wanted to give it a try.”
Castle had to leave the game in L.A. in the first half after taking a scary-looking fall while blocking a dunk attempt from the Lakers’ Rui Hachimura.
He labored through the pain Wednesday, finishing with eight points on 3-of-11 shooting.
Johnson said he appreciated Castle’s effort, even if his body wasn’t completely cooperating.
“He’s stubborn,” coach Mitch Johnson said. “Most guys probably wouldn’t have played. That’s why we love his fearlessness, because he doesn’t care.”
Castle said he still plans to play in Friday’s Rising Stars game in Los Angeles as part of All-Star weekend.
