It will be up to Carter Bryant to avenge Stephon Castle’s honor in the NBA slam dunk contest.
The Spurs rookie forward has been added to the field for this year’s event held during All-Star weekend next month in Los Angeles, league sources say.
The 14th pick in last June’s draft out of Arizona, Bryant gives the Spurs a rookie entrant in the dunk contest for the second year in a row.
Last year in San Francisco, Castle finished runner-up to G Leaguer Mac McClung, who won his third straight dunk title in contentious fashion.
Castle has said he was not interested in participating in this year’s contest.
Reports has indicated that McClung will not attempt to defend his crown for the fourth time and will skip the dunk contest this year so he can focus on making a roster. The full field for the contest is expected to be announced at a later date.
Los Angeles Lakers and former University of Texas center Jaxson Hayes is expected to compete in the contest.
