BOSTON — Saturday’s game against the Celtics will mark the sixth in a row the Spurs have been without starting forward Devin Vassell, who has been sidelined since Dec. 30 with a groin injury.
But Johnson said Vassell is “getting closer” to returning after what the coach called a “really good stretch” of rehab.
“I don’t have a (timetable) for you or whatnot, but he’s had a really, really good stretch, and so we feel really good about that and it’s good for him because he’s been having a heck of a year,” Johnson said.
The Spurs are 3-2 without Vassell, who is averaging 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting nearly 38% from beyond the arc on 7.0 attempts per game.
