因为我们的人民理应拥有一个未来。 :heart::folded_hands:t5::palms_up_together:t5::congo_kinshasa:

How Spurs Bismack Biyombo used video to bolster spirits in Congo

San Antonio Spurs center Bismack Biyombo cheers on his teammates during the first half against the Toronto Raptors at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Sunday, April 13, 2025.

Spurs backup center Bismack Biyombo made an impassioned plea in a video on social media recently to his fellow Congolese to maintain hope in the face of the fighting that has plagued the Democratic Republic of Congo for years.

“Courage is not born in comfort,” Biyombo said. “Courage is born in fire, and it is in that fire that we discover who we truly are. And today we stand as one people … I believe in the coming day, a day when eastern Congo is not known for war but for children running freely through streets, a day when mothers will sleep without fear … Our responsibility as Congolese is to have hope.”

Sometimes, all you can offer is your voice.
To whoever this must reach,
open your ears and above all, open your heart.
Because our people deserve a future.:folded_hands:t5::palms_up_together:t5::congo_kinshasa:

Biyombo’s message came as the U.N. Security Council urged Rwanda to withdraw its forces from eastern Congo and extended the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Congo, known as MONUSCO, for a year, as fighting in the region escalated despite a U.S.-mediated peace deal.

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson brought Biyombo’s video to the attention of the media Sunday night after the win at Washington.

“If anybody has six and a half minutes of their time, which they do, they should jump on social media, listen to Bismack Biyombo and some of the words he shared about what’s going on in Congo,” Johnson said. "It’s a lot more important than anything else I said tonight.

“… I’d highly and strongly suggest everybody make time to listen to that. Very powerful and impactful and impressive. He wrote it himself, every word.”
