The 21-year-old All-star center, typically known for his confident performance on the court, was mourning the loss of his maternal grandmother Marie-Christina de Fautereau, 82, who he learned passed away in France just hours ahead of the Tuesday night game.
On the court that evening, some fans noted that he took a moment to “pause and gather himself” during the match. In a post-game media session, Wemby could be seen appearing to fight back tears: “Sorry. I just lost somebody today. I’ll take one more question,” he said before cutting his session short.

At around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, Wemby took to social media to share a heartfelt message in the wake of his grandmother’s death. The message was simple; he posted a family photo that included his grandmother to his Instagram story.
