Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and Jordan McLaughlin were all full participants in the Spurs’ workout Sunday on the campus of Tulane University, a key step in the team returning to full health.
“It’s definitely amazing to see everyone back working,” Spurs guard Dylan Harper said. “We did well without those guys. Now when they come back, you’ll see a whole other team.”
Those three players stayed home from the first two games of the Spurs’ current road trip, which featured a win in Orlando and loss in Cleveland. They rejoined the club in time for Sunday’s practice session in New Orleans.
A practice appearance still does not mean a return is imminent for any or all of the Spurs’ injured players.
Wembanyama, who has missed 10 games with a strained left calf, is not expected to play in Monday’s game against the Pelicans. He is likewise considered iffy for the team’s NBA Cup quarterfinal matchup at the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.
McLaughlin, out with a hamstring issue, is also expected to miss at least the game against New Orleans.
Castle, who has been missed nine games with a hip flexor strain, has not yet been ruled out for a return against the Pelicans. The Spurs expected to know more about his status following shootaround Monday morning.
In other injury news, center Luke Kornet, who missed the loss in Cleveland with an ankle sprain, is expected to be cleared to play Monday.
The Spurs’ first league-mandated injury report for Monday’s game is due at 5 p.m. central Sunday.
