Spurs star Victor Wembanyama reiterated Monday he is fully healed from the blood clot in his right shoulder that cost him the last two months of last season.

“I feel better, I look stronger and the scale says I’m heavier, so everything is a green light,” Wembanyama said.

Speaking at media day Monday, Wembanyama said he hopes to see plenty of minutes in the preseason.

“I feel like I need to play basketball now,” he said.

The Spurs open training camp Tuesday. Their preseason opener is set for Oct. 6 against a team from China at the Frost Bank Center.

The regular season opener will be Oct. 22 at Dallas.

While Wembanyama is healthy, Spurs point guard De’Aaron Fox said he doesn’t think he will be ready to play in the regular season opener at Dallas on Oct. 22 due to an injured right hamstring.

“I think I’m ready, but I don’t have that expertise,” Fox said at media day Monday.

Fox also said he does not expect to play in the preseason.

“I had never had a hamstring injury, so I didn’t know what I was supposed to feel like,” he said. “But like I said, right now I feel great. But, yeah, I don’t think I’ll be playing opening night. I definitely won’t be playing in the preseason, that’s for sure.”

Said Spurs coach Mitch Johnson, “We’re just going to be very mindful and conservative as we always are. He will be out there ready to be practicing tomorrow, but we’ll be big picture. Obviously, long season ahead.”

On a positive note, Fox said he’s fully healed from offseason surgery to repair tendon damage in his left pinkie.

The Spurs could also be without rookie guard Dylan Harper in the preseason after he had surgery in the offseason to repair a partially torn collateral ligament in his left thumb.

“We’re not going to try to put any particular timetable on certain things,” Johnson said when asked about Harper’s availability. “Everything is heading in the right direction, so we just want it to continue that way, and when it’s all the way good and it’s probably a little overdone on our end medically, then we’ll clear as we always do.”
