Spurs Managing Partner Peter J. Holt speaks at a news conference introducing Mitch Johnson as the new head coach of the Spurs on May 6, 2025. Spurs Sports & Entertainment is investing in professional volleyball team LOVB Austin, the organization announced Wednesday.
Spurs Sports & Entertainment is increasing its already deep business footprint in the Austin region.
League One Volleyball announced Wednesday that SS&E is part of the ownership group that has bought into its Austin franchise.
G9 Ventures and Bolt Ventures are the other owners of LOVB Austin Volleyball, the professional volleyball league said in a press release. The group has also gained an ownership stake in the league.
Peter J. Holt, chairman and managing partner of SS&E, said in a statement that LOVB Austin Volleyball’s "community-first and athlete-centered model is in complete alignment with our organizational values and standards at Spurs Sports & Entertainment.”
“It’s so important for us to invest in our San Antonio-Austin region, and LOVB offers the perfect opportunity to do so while elevating women’s sports in a positive and unifying way," Holt added. "With the opportunity to host LOVB games throughout the entire Austin to Monterrey corridor, we can’t wait to see these elite athletes compete throughout our market.”

G9 Ventures is headed by Amy Griffin, who has already been involved in the league as an investor. David Blitzer, billionaire co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and an investor in the Washington Commanders, the Cleveland Guardians, the New Jersey Devils and in pro soccer, heads Bolt Ventures.
Financial details of the LOVB Austin transaction were not disclosed.
Nine of LOVB Austin’s 15 players played at Texas. Former Longhorns Logan Eggleston and Madisen Skinner led Austin to the first LOVB championship with a sweep of Omaha last April.
In addition to the Spurs and LOVB Austin, SS&E also includes the G League’s Austin Spurs and the United Soccer League’s San Antonio FC in its holdings. The Spurs have played regular season “home games” in Austin the past three seasons as part of an SS&E effort to expand its marketing of the area.
LOVB is embarking on its second season. The original six LOVB teams had all been owned and operated by the league, but the league is now moving toward individual ownership.

“To build a sustainable and successful professional volleyball league for the long term, you need visionary team owners who not only subscribe to your mission, but believe strongly in the tremendous opportunity ahead,” Rosie Spaulding, president of LOVB, said in a statement.
“David Blitzer, Amy Griffin and Peter J. Holt are passionate champions of LOVB’s unique youth-to-pro model, the potential for volleyball to be the next major sports league in the U.S. and the community of Austin as a true hotbed for the sport," Spaulding added. "We are thrilled to partner with these three extraordinary organizations in growing LOVB Austin, League One Volleyball and the game itself.”
Said Griffin, “As a former volleyball player from Texas, investing in a women’s sports franchise in Austin feels like an opportunity to help grow a sport that has taught me so many lessons. G9 deeply believes in the transformative nature of sport, and we are proud to have partnered with LOVB for the past two years to build community and empower young women."
