OKLAHOMA CITY — The NBA has issued Spurs star Victor Wembanyama a warning for violating the league’s media access rules, a league source said.
The All-Star center declined to address the media following the Spurs’ 127-114 loss to Oklahoma City in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals Tuesday.
Wembanyama missed 11 of 15 field goals on his way to 20 points in the defeat, which gave the Thunder a 3-2 lead in the series.
OKC will look to close the Spurs out in Game 6 on Thursday in San Antonio.
Last month, Wembanyama was awarded the Magic Johnson Award, given annually by the Professional Basketball Writers Association to the player who best combines excellence on the court with diligence in dealing with media obligations.
He is believed to be the first Magic Johnson winner to be admonished by the league for failure to fulfill media obligations during the playoffs.
