What Spurs great Manu Ginobili had to say about Dylan Harper’s dunk
San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper (2) drives around Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid (11) during the second half of Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The Spurs defeated the Timberwolves 126-97, now leading the series 3-2.
Dylan Harper’s spectacular coast-to-coast dunk late in the Spurs’ 126-97 win over Minnesota on Tuesday thrilled the sellout crowd of 19,345 at the Frost Bank Center, including the Hall of Famer the rookie guard is often compared to.
“Left-to-right to right-to-left behind-the-back move finished with a dunk. Absolutely beautiful!” Manu Ginobili wrote on X.
Harper finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench for his second double-double of the playoffs as the Spurs grabbed a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference semifinals.
Not bad for a player who was a game-time decision due to left knee soreness.
“In the back of my head I knew I was going to play. I wanted to play,” Harper said.

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson wasn’t so sure, though, about Harper and guard De’Aaron Fox, who was a game-time decision with right ankle soreness.
Like Harper, Fox shook off his injury to play well. In 34 minutes, the two-time All-Star had 18 points, five assists and four rebounds.
“I didn’t know when I walked in the building if they were going to play. It was real. For those two guys to have performances like that, it was as strong as a statement for us in that locker room as Victor’s,” Johnson said, referring to Victor Wembanyama finishing with 27 points, 17 rebounds, five assists and three blocks after getting ejected in the second quarter in Game 4 on Sunday for elbowing Naz Reid in the neck.
“Different circumstances and obviously different attention from the external, which we understand, but for what those two guys did with where they were at and what we needed, it was a big-time performance.”
Harper, 20, became the youngest guard in NBA history to post multiple double-doubles in the playoffs, passing Derrick Rose. Only David Robinson (seven) and Tim Duncan (six) had more playoff double-doubles for the Spurs as rookies.
“To see that from a rookie is crazy," Spurs forward Keldon Johnson said of Harper. "And it’s crazy to be calling him a rookie with the way he plays. He’s been consistent all season with it. It just shows you how special he can be, and how special he is right now.”
