San Antonio Spurs guard Jordan McLaughlin (0) lays the ball in during the fourth quarter of Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Wednesday, May 6, 2026. The Spurs rolled past the Timberwolves 133-95 to even the series at 1-1.

MINNEAPOLIS — Spurs guard Jordan McLaughlin enjoys being back where his NBA career began seven years ago.

McLaughlin spent the first five seasons of his NBA career in Minneapolis after signing with the Timberwolves as an undrafted rookie in 2019 before earning a multi-year pact with the club in September 2021.

Now he’s back in the city for the Western Conference semifinals.

“It was great. I never had a bad moment out here,” McLaughlin, a California native, said. “The city was very welcoming to myself and my wife and we were able to get out in the community and help a little bit as well. It’s a pretty underrated city when it’s not cold. When it’s cold, it’s a little brutal. But summers out here are beautiful, and the spring is nice as well.”

Before signing with Sacramento as a free agent in July 2024, McLaughlin played his final four seasons with Minnesota under coach Chris Finch.

“Finchy’s great, man,” McLaughlin said. “He really knows his stuff. He’s on top of it. He knows his Xs and Os. Really great coach and glad to play for him.”

McLaughlin averaged 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in 242 career games with the Timberwolves. He saw action in 56 games for Minnesota during the 2023-24 season and ranked second in the NBA in assist-to-turnover ratio (5.79) among players who appeared in 50-plus games and averaged at least 10.0 minutes per contest.

McLaughlin said he has enjoyed catching up with some of the employees at Target Center he got to know through the years.

“A lot of the ushers, the ball kids, it’s nice to see them growing up,” he said. “Reconnecting with them and then people outside in the community and the city, it’s really cool to come back here.”
