这一大胆的言论让ESPN最著名的媒体人、《First Take》主持人史蒂芬·A·史密斯 (Stephen A. Smith) 露出了困惑的神情。

Kendrick Perkins says Spurs will lose series to Timberwolves

Kendrick Perkins now thinks the Spurs won’t even make it past Minnesota, let alone win the NBA championship.
Overreaction after a loss isn’t something new on ESPN’s “First Take” morning show, and an ex-NBA player had quite the hot take after the San Antonio Spurs dropped Game 1 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Kendrick Perkins, a former player-turned media personality/analyst, heaped praise on Anthony Edwards for his valiant performance off the bench days after suffering a gruesome knee injury. However, he couldn’t help but overreact.
“I know I picked the San Antonio Spurs to win the championship … and I’m gonna say right now I was wrong … they’re not gonna win this series,” Perkins said on Tuesday’s show.
The bold statement drew a puzzled look from ESPN’s biggest personality and “First Take” host, Stephen A. Smith.
Perkins doubled down, saying the Timberwolves have the “it factor” and that they want all the smoke when it comes to playing Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs.
Continuing on his rant, Perkins said that the Timberwolves’ lengthy athletic defenders like Jaden McDaniels and others are going to give Spurs guards like De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle problems throughout this series. This reasoning is why he is “jumping off the porch.”
Now, for Stephen A. Smith, his take was surprisingly measured.
“(Perkins) I’m not gonna get on you because, to be honest, you’ve been wrong before, so it’s no big deal,” he said.
Smith acknowledged Edwards’ play and the Timberwolves’ ability to win the series, but he questioned whether Wembanyama and Fox would have similarly inefficient, turnover-riddled performances in the remaining games of the series.
“Do we really think that’s gonna happen again…I don’t know,” he said.
Smith also added that the Timberwolves’ late fourth-quarter struggles, which let the Spurs close the gap, had him uneasy, but he’s looking forward to seeing how Game 2 unfolds on Wednesday.

Still, Perkins doubled down again, warning that Game 2 is pivotal for the Spurs’ chances to advance.
“If the Spurs don’t get Game 2…they’re going to get swept,” Perkins said.
