Open Thread: Victor Wembanyama nails down triple-double in Spurs loss to Minnesota

Victor Wembanyama put his defensive stamp on Minnesota by accumulating three blocks in the opening moments of the game. He ended the night with twelve blocks, a career high for the newly crowned Defensive Player of the Year.
Wemby also had thirteen defensive rebounds, making second chance points tough for the Timberwolves.
Where the Spurs superstar struggled was on the offensive end.
“It’s a lot on me, obviously my game wasn’t good tonight and that’s where my team is going to look for me. If I had been better, if the offensive leaders on the team had been better, it would have been different,” Wembanyama said after the game.
With three minutes left in regulation, Wemby had only 8 points. He ended the night with 11, earning him his first postseason triple-double. But 11 points is not a normal night out for Vic, and that is where the Spurs fell short.
Paired with De’Aaron Fox, who also had a rough night — 10 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, and 6 turnovers — the Spurs looked out of sorts on the offensive end of the court.
Julian Champagnie — who took the buzzer beater that, had it gone in, would have given the Spurs a one-point win — pointed out that one shot was the difference, and there more to adjustments than making or missing one shot.
Wembanyama mirrored the need to make adjustments. He shared that he’d look at film as soon as possible. For Wemby, the final minutes of the game seemed like a “blur” and he needed to reset.
The Spurs have 48 hours to do exactly that.
They will host the Timberwolves again on Wednesday at the Frost Bank Center before the series moves to Minneapolis for games 3 and 4.
