PORTLAND, Ore. — Victor Wembanyama participated in Spurs shootaround Friday morning at Moda Center but remains questionable for Game 3 against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Wembanyama, who entered the NBA’s concussion protocol after he fell and hit his head on the court during the second period of the Spurs’ 106-103 loss in Game 2 on Tuesday night at the Frost Bank Center, got up shots with his teammates during the portion of the workout open to the media.

It’s a significant increase in activity for the two-time All-Star from what he did at practice Thursday morning before he flew on the team charter to Portland.

After the media conducted interviews with Luke Kornet and Dylan Harper, a Spurs staffer ushered reporters off the court so the team could continue to do protocol benchmark work with the 22-year-old French star.

Asked how Wembanyama looked during the walkthrough in advance of Friday night’s 9:30 p.m. game, Harper said, “Really good. I think that he’s progressing every day and he’s progressing well. All we can really do is pray for him and just hope the trajectory he’s in just keeps happening.”

The series is tied 1-1. Harper said the Spurs need to adopt their usual “next man up mentality” if they have to play Game 3 without their leading scorer, rebounder and shot blocker.

The Spurs went 12-6 without Wembanyama this season, including 2-1 against Portland.

“I think we’ve done a great job of having that next guy up mentality,” Harper said. “Obviously, we hope he plays, but if he doesn’t, next man up, just pick a guy up.”

If Wembanyama is ruled out, Kornet will start in his place.

“We played (the Blazers) three times without Victor,” Kornet said. “We played a decent amount of games (without him), so I feel like you have those reps and you kind of know what the team looks like and different people take on different responsibilities.”

After receiving treatment on his jammed left thumb, Harper says he’s “ready to go” tonight.

Asked if it’s something he’ll have to deal with throughout the playoffs, the rookie said, “Hopefully not…nothing wrong with it. Just keep jamming it. We got to just keep fighting.”
