The Spurs’ first-round playoff picture is coming into focus.
The Spurs will play Game 1 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs against the Portland vs. Phoenix play-in winner at 8 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at the Frost Bank Center, the NBA announced Sunday night.
The announcement came after the Spurs’ 128-118 loss to the Denver Nuggets.
“I feel like we’re pretty excited regardless if we’re having a noon game (or) an 8 p.m. game,” Spurs guard Stephon Castle said. “To be able to mark it on our calendars now (is exciting). It’s going to fun.”
Castle said the team has been in postseason mode for a while.
“If we were just flipping into playoff mode now, then we’d probably be in trouble,” Castle said. “So, yeah, we’ve kind of flipped our minds toward that. And we expect to make a long run of it.”
Castle said he’s not giving too much thought yet about the opponent.
“Regardless (of who it is), it’s playoff basketball,” he said. “Seeding to us really doesn’t matter. We have to like (coach) Mitch (Johnson) said, just win the game ahead of us. So we’re just keeping our minds focused on that, no matter who it is.”
Forward Keldon Johnson agreed.
“We’ve been building toward this moment and we’re going to prepare our week and be ready come Sunday at eight o’clock,” he said.
The Spurs will start their week of practice on Tuesday after taking Monday off.
