pic.twitter.com/qRG6Jq8vTU

3 takeaways as Spurs win 60th with Wembanyama injured

San Antonio Spurs guard De’aaron Fox (4) drives past Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George (8) during the first quarter of an NBA game at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Monday, April 6, 2026.
Give the Spurs a nifty 60.
Stephon Castle scored 19 points to go with 13 assists, 11 rebounds and 13 assists Monday as the Spurs gutted out a 115-102 victory over Philadelphia at the Frost Bank Center.
The Spurs won their 60th game of the season despite losing All-Star center Victor Wembanyama at halftime due to a rib contusion.
It marked the Spurs’ first 60-win campaign since 2016-17, and their eighth all-time.

Wembanyama departed after 16 minutes, logging 17 points with three blocks. Rookie guard Dylan Harper added 17 off the bench for the Spurs, who improved to 60-19 against a 76ers team hoping to avoid falling into an Eastern Conference play-in game.
Until Wembanyama’s injury, it was looking like another battle of All-Star big men, with the 7-foot-4 Frenchman going toe-to-toe with Sixers star Joel Embiid.
Embiid ended with 34 points and 12 rebounds and went 16 of 19 from the foul line. He was 8 of 20 from the field.
It was Embiid’s first game against the Spurs since he scored a 76ers-record 70 points in a win in Philadelphia on Jan. 22, 2024.
He didn’t make it halfway to that total Monday.
The loss dropped the 76ers to 43-36, one spot below Toronto in the race for the East’s sixth and final outright playoff spot.
Here are three takeaways from Monday’s victory, which helped the Spurs hit a milestone:
1. Wemby injury proof how fragile this all is
With 10:47 remaining in the second quarter, Wembanyama collided with George as they grabbled over the same pass.
Wembanyama stayed on the floor in obvious pain before heading to the locker room. He returned to the game later in the quarter, but left again with a few seconds remaining before halftime.
This time, Wembanyama did not return to the arena bowl. His night was over.

San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama (1) grabs his left side following a collision with Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George (8) during the second quarter at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Monday, April 6, 2026. He sat out in the second half due to a left rib contusion.
For those tracking these things, Wembanyama reached 16 minutes before exiting Monday, ensuring the game will count toward NBA awards eligibility. He has logged 64 appearances this season, needing one more to meet the league’s 65-game requirement.
The Spurs’ overriding goal with Wembanyama now is to get him to the first round of the playoffs in one piece.
If nothing else, watching Wembanyama leave to floor early on a night the Spurs’ won their 60th game provided proof of how fragile the Spurs’ feel-good season is.
2. Castle climbing triple-double charts
Castle stepped up with Wembanyama out. By night’s end, Castle had put up his fifth career triple-double, giving him sole possession of fifth place on the club’s all-time chart.
That one more triple-doubles than Wembayama has logged. One more triple-double than Tim Duncan.
Three of Castle’s triple-doubles have come over the past six games.
“I think tonight was a classic Stephon Castle game,” coach Mitch Johnson said. “He just imposed his will.”
3. Keldon Johnson was a wrecking ball
The box score shows Keldon Johnson had a rough shooting night off the bench. He was 4 of 14 on his way to 13 points.
Even so, Johnson’s fingerprints were all over the Spurs’ victory. His hustle saved the Spurs many a possession as they put away the 76ers.
There was the offensive rebound he dug out that led to a Harper 3-pointer in the first half. Another putback on a Carter Bryant miss in the third quarter. The exclamation point came with 5:09 to go, when Johnson came soaring in to block a Tyrese Maxey layup attempt.
That ignited a fast break that ended with Harper layup and the Spurs ahead 110-99.
