The Spurs gained their 60th win Monday night, a significant milestone in this surprising turnaround season.
But they believe they’re built for much more.
“(Winning 60 games) was definitely a goal of ours, especially late in the season,” guard Stephon Castle said. “So, to be able to accomplish that before the end of the regular season is definitely a big deal, but I think we got our eyes set on bigger goals right now.”
Powered by Castle’s 19-point, 13-assist, 11-rebound triple-double, the Spurs improved to 60-19 with their 115-102 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. They have three more games left, beginning with Wednesday night’s outing against Portland.
It’s the eighth time in franchise history the Spurs have reached 60 wins and their first time to do it since the 2016-17 squad won 61 before advancing to the Western Conference finals.
The Spurs, who finished 34-48 in 2024-25, are just the fourth team in NBA history to reach 60 victories the season after winning less than 35. Boston achieved such a dramatic turnaround in 2007-2008 and 1979-80, and Phoenix did it in 2004-2005.
“It means in 79 games we’ve done a hell of a job,” Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said. “It’s a lot of wins this year. I’m not going to downplay that at all. … And it’s a good thing that we’ve had that much success with that much improvement.”
Guard De’Aaron Fox called 60 wins a “big accomplishment,” but like Castle stressed the Spurs are “trying to play for something bigger.”
“I think Cleveland won 60 last year and then they lost in the second round and it felt like it was a disappointing season. So we don’t want to have that,” said Fox, referring to the Cavaliers losing in five games to Indiana in the 2025 Eastern Conference Semifinals after going 64-18 in the regular season.
Forward Devin Vassell said the best thing about 60 wins is everyone on the team contributed while putting in long hours to reach it. Castle and Fox are in their second seasons with the Spurs, but Vassell is in his sixth campaign with the club and endured back-to-back 22-60 seasons in 2022-23 and 2023-24.

“We’re all getting the fruits of our labor, of all the work we’ve been putting in," he said. "Sixty wins is incredible. To be in a spot like that when we were just winning 20-something is incredible.”
The Spurs also clinched at least the second-best record in the league. They trail Oklahoma City (62-16) by 2.5 games.
“I think it just speaks to kind of the group that we’ve become … and just how persistent we’ve been about kind of attacking every game,” center Luke Kornet said.
