Nearly two months after undergoing season-ending surgery on his right ankle, rookie David Jones Garcia is traveling with the Spurs on their current road trip.
Jones Garcia was forced to keep his repaired right leg immobilized on a scooter for six weeks following his procedure. He was finally cleared to ditch it last week.
Though Jones Garcia has not been cleared for basketball activities, he has made one important stride toward that end.
“I’m walking again,” Jones Garcia said.
It was difficult for Jones Garcia to come on the road with the Spurs while still confined to the scooter.
“There was nowhere for him to sit (on the bench),” Mitch Johnson said.
Now that he is scooter-less, the Spurs are glad to have the affable Dominican guard along for the ride.
“He’s a big part of the locker room and the group and the guys, so it’s been good to have him around,” Johnson said.
Johnson said the team expects Jones Garcia to return to the court in time to enjoy a full offseason of development.
