LOS ANGELES — As the youngest child in an NBA family, Spurs guard Dylan Harper had his share of fun at All-Star weekend.
It is only fitting his first All-Star weekend as a pro should be a family affair as well.
The 19-year-old rookie is looking forward to this year’s revival of the Shooting Stars competition, where he will compete on a Team Harper squad that includes his father, Ron, and older brother Ron. Jr.
“I think it’s just like a legacy thing,” the youngest Harper said. “Going out there with my dad and my brother, it shows our lineage. When you take a step back, how special it is that all three of us made it to the league.”
Ron Harper, 62, spent 15 seasons in the NBA and won five championships. Ron Jr., 25, is on a two-way contract with the Boston Celtics and also spent time in Toronto and Detroit.
Dylan Harper was the No. 2 pick in last June’s draft behind Dallas’ Cooper Flagg.
The Harpers will compete in a two-round shooting competition as part of All-Star Saturday night at the Inuit Dome in Los Angeles.
The younger Harper was already scheduled to be in L.A. for the Rising Stars Challenge on Friday, making the Shooting Stars invite a no-brainer.
“I don’t know why I’d say no,” Dylan Harper said. “I was all in.”
Team Harper is set to shoot against three squads comprised of two current NBA players and one legend.

Asked if his father still has his jump shot 25 years into retirement, Harper offered a quick and firm, “No.”
“It’s going to be hard to win,” Harper said with a laugh.
Harper calls Ron. Jr. the best shooter of the group. The family has already come up with a strategy to try to make the final round.
“Dad will take all layups,” Harper said. “Me and (Ron Jr) will take the long threes.”

Spurs support Bryant’s slam bid
With his debut in the NBA Slam Dunk contest approaching Saturday, Spurs rookie Carter Bryant has been in the lab working on his craft.
The 20-year-old’s practice dunks have been top secret. One notable spy, however, is confident Bryant has a chance to bring San Antonio its first slam dunk title.
“I’ve seen a couple of his dunks,” Spurs guard Stephon Castle said. “I think he’ll have a good showing out there.”
Castle came close to bringing home the crown last year in San Francisco, finishing runner-up to G-Leaguer and three-time champion Mac McClung in a contentious result.
Some of Bryant’s other teammates go further in forecasting his chances this year.
“He’s going to win,” forward Julian Champagnie said. “That’s the prediction.”
Earlier this season, Bryant went through an infamous bout of dunk yips, missing almost every in-game attempt. To cure him, Bryant’s veteran teammates made a wager he would have to shave his head if he missed three more.
Does the bet continue for Saturday’s slam dunk contest? Champagnie has the official ruling.
“I don’t think we’ll do that to him honestly,” Champagnie said.
