Victor Wembanyama, Devin Vassell ruled out Saturday against Portland
All-Star center Victor Wembanyama was ruled out for a second consecutive game Saturday against Portland, but the Spurs believe he could be back on the floor soon. The team will have to wait a bit longer on his fellow injured starter, Devin Vassell.
Wembanyama hyperextended his left knee during the Spurs’ victory over New York on Wednesday. Subsequent MRIs showed no ligament damage.
“We’re encouraged,” Johnson said. “We’re going to take it day-by-day … but we’re encouraged by what we’ve seen.”
Vassell suffered a left adductor strain during the Spurs’ loss against Cleveland on Monday. An MRI conducted Friday confirmed the injury, which is likely to keep Vassell out for a longer period.
“That will be more than a few games,” Johnson said. “Just kind of have to continue to see how he ramps up and feels.”
The team is hopeful Vassell’s injury will not be a lingering one once he fully heals.
“We are encouraged by it in terms of, it should not be something that will be nagging him for the year,” Johnson said. "We just want to get him all the way right.”
