LOS ANGELES — Spurs forward Keldon Johnson’s spread in Boerne stands to benefit from his NBA Cup quarterfinals windfall.
The self-proclaimed country boy from rural Virginia talked to reporters about how he might spend the $53,093 he and each of his teammates will pocket from the Spurs reaching the knockout round.
“I’ll probably add to the farm,” Johnson said at shootaround before Wednesday night’s game against the Lakers. “You know I’m getting a big pond built right now. I might get a llama. I might get some sheep or something like that.”
Johnson, who often sports a black cowboy hat and boots, currently owns 12 goats, six chickens, four mini-cows, two horses, a mini-donkey, all tended to by his family and best friend.
“We all work together,” Johnson said. “We are the farm hands.”
If the Spurs beat the Lakers, Johnson will have even more money to spend on his farm.
Per Yahoo Sports, Amazon Prime Video recently revealed that the payout to teams that reach the NBA Cup semifinals in Las Vegas is $106,187 per player.
Teams that reach the championship game receive $212,373 per player. The team that wins the title will gain $530,933 per player.
Head coaches get the same amount as players, according to Yahoo Sports, while assistants pocket a smaller proportion.
Two-way players collect 50% of the amounts.
“We can’t wait to get out there, have some fun and ultimately compete,” Johnson said. “If we get the win, it will definitely be our biggest win of the season, so we looking forward to that. We know what’s at stake and we are ready to go.”
