San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper (2) takes control of the ball over Brooklyn Nets forward Jalen Wilson (22) during the second half of the Spurs’ home opener at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025. The Spurs defeated the Nets, 118-107.

LOS ANGELES - An MRI on Monday morning in Los Angeles revealed Spurs rookie Dylan Harper suffered a left calf strain in Sunday’s loss at Phoenix, the Spurs announced.

The team said in a release it will provide updates as appropriate. The good news for Harper and the Spurs, who face the Lakers on Wednesday night, is the MRI showed no significant damage.

But the loss of the 6-foot-6 guard is a blow at least in the short term to a club quickly reaping the rewards of selecting Harper second overall in the 2025 NBA Draft after it won the pick in the lottery.

Harper suffered the injury in the second quarter against the Suns while defending a dunk by Nick Richards. The Spurs announced at halftime he would miss the rest of the game.

Harper left the game with 12 points on 5 of 8 from the field and 2 of 2 from the free throw line in 11 minutes off the bench. He entered the game averaging 14.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists.

“We’ve seen great things from him,” Spurs center Victor Wembanyama said. “It’s actually been hard to believe how good he’s played.”

The former Rutgers star grabbed at his lower leg after the play while grimacing in pain. He hobbled off to the locker room for treatment followed by Spurs general manager Brian Wright.
