Spurs guard Lindy Waters III will miss Friday night’s preseason finale against Indiana, the season opener at Dallas on Oct. 22 and a few others games due to an upcoming minor laser procedure to correct a lingering eye issue, a team spokesman said.
The eye problem was caught during a routine physical.
“We hope to have him back after Halloween,” the spokesman said.
If that timetable holds true, Waters will miss the first five games but return for the trip to Phoenix to play the Suns and Los Angeles to face the Lakers.
Waters, who played in the first four preseason games, is the third player the Spurs have ruled out for the opener since training camp started in late September.
Guard De’Aaron Fox (hamstring) and forward Jeremy Sochan (wrist) also will be sidelined when the Spurs face the Mavericks.
The Spurs signed Waters to a one-year deal in the offseason. The four-year veteran played 38 games for the Golden State last season, including nine starts, and averaged 5.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 17.2 minutes per night before the Warriors traded him to Detroit, where he appeared in 14 games for the Pistons.
