Spurs finish Summer League with 96-84 win over Pistons
David Jones-Garcia had another great game to lead the Summer Spurs to a win and a 4-1 record.
The Spurs finished the 2025 Las Vegas Summer League with a 96-84 win over the Detroit Pistons. Dylan Harper, Carter Bryant, and Riley Minix all sat, but David Jones-Garcia led the way with 23 points as San Antonio cruised to an easy victory.
The first quarter was close, but the Summer Spurs pulled away after that, with Jones-Garcia fueling their attack. After dropping 34 points in the second frame as a team, it was smooth sailing for a San Antonio squad that got to play some guys that hadn’t gotten on the floor much, if at all, in prior games. The Pistons also went deep into their bench to give everyone an opportunity to shine.
There were some competitive minutes in the third quarter, but the main guys weren’t on the floor for long. The final period was even more disjointed than most Summer League games typically are, but the Silver and Black held on to finish the tournament with a 4-1 record.
Jones-Garcia has done everything right and deserves a payday
In an even bigger role than the one he had in previous games, Jones-Garcia continued to make the case for being the biggest tournament standout. He showed off his scoring prowess from all over the floor again, finishing the first half with 21 points, before going into distributor mode in the third quarter. He only logged three assists but could have had more, as he tried to move the ball and find teammates. DJG also continued to play hard in the last game, when it would have been easy to lose focus and coast. It was a great ending to a fantastic Summer League for the 23-year-old scorer.
There are rumors that Euroleague giant Olympiakos is in talks with him, but an NBA team might want to sign him first. Sure, there are questions as to how his game will translate to a smaller role in which he doesn’t have the ball in his hands. The broadcast crew compared him to James Harden, and while accurate in a Summer League context, the comparison might do him more harm than good as NBA teams look for deep bench players who can complement what they already have instead of guys who will need touches. But the talent is there, his attitude seems to be good, and his teammates like him.
Harrison Ingram will never wow anyone, but he does the little things
Ingram’s stats, like they have been for most of Summer League, were unimpressive. He finished with five points, four rebounds, and three assists in 20 minutes, which is not the type of production that will make a second-year guy stand out. He didn’t shoot threes, and he didn’t have any real highlights, other than a modest pump fake into reverse layup combo that, while nice, won’t get him many new fans. He’s not particularly big or athletic, nor extraordinarily skilled. An NBA career might not be in the cards for him unless the three becomes a deadly weapon that rounds out his game.

That said, he’s someone the fans of the little things can appreciate. Ingram rebounds. He can handle the ball a little. He’s an underrated passer who logged multiple assists in all but one Las Vegas game despite not being the type of threat that opponents key in on. He plays hard and unselfishly, realizing his limitations. It would be understandable for the Spurs, who drafted him 48th in the 2024 draft, to part ways with him after a year of no major leaps, but he does enough things at a decent level that another two-way could be justifiable. At worst, he’ll give Austin a player who helps others improve by playing the right way.
The veterans did their job on the Summer League squad
The Spurs went with older players on their roster, for the most part. The only guys 21 or younger were the rookies. Cam Carter, Jacksen Moni, and Ingram were 22. Everyone else was older and neither super athletic nor uber skilled. The idea, it seems, was not to find hidden gems but to build a squad that knew what it was doing around the recent draft picks. As a result, other than Jones-Garcia, there were no standouts outside of the most familiar names.
Dexter Dennis with the stepback triple…

Hopefully, the good performance across the tournament by guys like Dexter Dennis (12 points, three rebounds, two assists against Detroit) and Osayi Osifo (eight points and six rebounds vs. the Pistons) will get them some offers from Europe, although it seems unlikely. Others also did well but might need to return to the G League, which is not the worst scenario for their career. Regardless of what happens in the future, they did their job by making the 2025 Summer Spurs a solid and fun squad.
