SAN FRANCISCO – Organizers of the California Classic held a moment of silence for victims of ongoing flooding in central Texas before the Spurs’ opener Saturday at the Chase Center.

As Spurs players and staff members prepared for their game against Miami, the death toll from Friday’s floods in Kerr County stood at 27. Flooding continued along the Guadalupe River into Saturday as several areas were being evacuated and dozens still missing.

Speaking outside the the locker room in San Francisco on Saturday, Spurs summer league coach Mike Noyes said he was shocked and saddened by the images of destruction coming out of central Texas.

“It’s devastating," Noyes said. "We love our jobs and it’s great playing basketball, but it’s a game. There are real-life things going on this world. To all the people who have been impacted by it, I cannot imagine what is going through their heads and how they are dealing with it. We want them to know that the Spurs organization and the Spurs family, we’re thinking about them and praying for them.”

The Spurs organization released a statement via its social media channels offering thoughts for those affected.

“We’re heartbroken by the tragic flooding in the Hill Country,” the statement read. “To every family grieving and every first responder helping others through the worst, please know the Spurs family is with you and holding you close in our thoughts. Our hearts are especially heavy for the children and their families whose lives have been forever changed.”
