The San Antonio Spurs were hanging on by a thread in the Western Conference Playoffs race. The Portland Trail Blazers cut that last thread by serving the Spurs a 120-109 loss that officially eliminates them from the NBA Playoffs.
The Spurs went down by 15 points early in the first quarter but fought to get back in the game for the following 36 minutes. San Antonio cut the Blazers’ lead down to 2 points with minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Some untimely mistakes on the offensive end ultimately led to their demise and secured the victory for Portland. The Spurs had multiple crucial turnovers before even getting the ball across half-court, which gave Portland a couple of four and five-point swings.
Neither team will be thrilled with their offensive performance. Portland benefitted from 27 free throw attempts, which boosted their offense that struggled outside of foul shots. The Blazers shot 47.2% from the field and 36.6% from three. The Spurs couldn’t find an offensive rhythm, shooting 43.2% from the field and 32.4% from deep.
