The first quarter was headlined by a scorching hot Harrison Barnes who drained SIX threes in the first quarter! Despite falling behind by two after the first, the Spurs regrouped and took a three-point lead heading into halftime. After leading by as much as 13, the Spurs entered the fourth quarter up by seven. However, the Magic clawed their way back. With 2 minutes left, the Spurs and Magic both traded clutch shots. Paolo Banchero made a pull-up jump shot with 1:26 left, but Victor Wembanyama countered with a clutch midrange jumper of his own. Banchero missed a three, and the Spurs grabbed the rebound. De’Aaron Fox was unfortunately stripped of the ball by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and the Magic had a chance to take the lead again. After Franz Wagner missed a floater, but he somehow got his own rebound while his momentum was carrying him out of bounds. He simultaneously signaled a timeout, which the referees granted. This was a controversial call due to confusion on if Wagner is in midair or if his momentum was carrying him out of bounds. Nonetheless, Banchero hit a go-ahead jumper with 25 seconds left. After the Spurs called timeout, they decided to drain the clock to ensure they had the last shot (which is a huge risk considering you are down by one). However, the Magic had a foul to give, and it was used with 12 seconds left. Wemby missed what would have been the game-winning jumper, and the Magic won 112-111.
Devin Vassell led the team with 25 points, three assists, two rebounds, and a steal. He shot an efficient 11 of 14 from the field and 3 of 4 from three. This is the Devin Spurs fans fell in love with. Hopefully, he continues his hot shooting in D.C.
