Perhaps no team honors its players as much as the Spurs.
Despite being intense rivals for 19 years, Chris Paul joined the Spurs for his 20th NBA season. The franchise has shown the Point God nothing but love since he got here, and he has returned the favor with his leadership and play on the court. On Sunday against the Pelicans, he hit a massive career milestone by surpassing Jason Kidd for 2nd all time in NBA assists. The Spurs immediately honored him on the court and later in the locker room. (I don’t know if my favorite part is him getting emotional or admitting he knows he can be a pain sometimes.)
Congrats @ CP3 on an incredible achievement pic.twitter.com/8On7ZcvGUp

However, the Spurs weren’t done there. They also put together a tribute video featuring several of his current and former teammates sending their congrats, including Peja Stojakovic, Devin Booker, Victor Wembanyama, Steph Curry, DeAndre Jordan, Blake Griffin and more.
Perhaps no team takes care of its players more than the Spurs, and that culture is a big reason why Paul chose to come here and assist with the rebuild instead of chase a ring in the twilight of his career. And as Dan Weiss pointing out to CP3 after the game, the next milestone is on the way as he just needs 37 more steals to pass Kidd for 2nd all-time in another stat. (Which is also led overall by John Stockton by such a wide margin it may never be broken — are we sure his stats weren’t padded?)
Once again, congrats to CP3!
