Learning the hard way
crsolraac:And the best way.
Coolgrnmen:And helps Wemby continue to develop interior defense.
Benjaphar:With Wemby, that seems to be the only way you can learn.
Aye rook ain’t afraid to challenge the alien. Respect
Wembanyanma:He also has a good 30-40 lbs on the alien. Can’t be going up with soft shit when you have the strength advantage.
Adorable-News-9364:Giannis didn’t go up soft with it against rookie Vic and still got his shit sent away. He’s stronger than he looks.
Wembanyanma:Reed has 20 lbs on Giannis too. This wasn’t meant to say that Wemby is some pushover strength wise. Moreso that Reed needs to do a better job of using his size to his advantage. Even at UConn against smaller college players it was often an issue for him.
WhoreyMatthews:I think people still don’t seem to understand how much of a height/length Wemby has on them.
Reed measured 6’9.75 at the combine in the spring. Wemby is at least 7’5 barefoot. That’s over a 7" height advantage plus Wemby’s extremely long arms.
We wouldn’t expect a strong 6’3 guard to get a good shot off vs a long 6’10 forward and it’s the same situation here just scaled up.
You have to realize this exact move has been a bucket on every defender he’s faced his entire life - until now.
Throw him to the fire and let him learn. This is good. I like that he’s showing confidence and not backing down from the best defender in the world. Murky-Frosting-8275:Great point. But also, this move will likely work against 75% of the NBA PFs/Cs in the league. If he’s not scared to be physical, he’ll be just fine in the NBA. Luckily he’ll mostly get embarrassed just during practice.
“I’m glad I don’t have to face that in real games” must be thought so many times in Spurs practice scrimmages…
mercfan3:I laughed at that clip with Dylan and Steph, where Steph steered Dylan right into Wemby’s favorite blocking spot…but Luke was his post defender.
Everybody got to try it once.
NGL, when I saw what the clip was, I was like, “what? is he going to score on the big guy?” and then…lol. Nope.
Off topic: Anyone else notice how massive Tarris Reed’s legs are?
Kid’s got a boxer’s legs. Damn.
This would just give me the confidence that against anyone else that’s bucket every time
Hell, guys that have been in the league 10 years still try Vic like this
Rookie mistake.
It’s even funnier when you realize that there are only maybe 4 dudes left in the entire league who will still try to score on Wemby like that, and 2 of them are like Jokic and Giannis
JoseAltuveIsInnocent:30 years from now on those NBA podcasts, we’ll hear Wemby’s name a lot when they get asked “what was your welcome to the NBA moment?”
Tesgoul:Cooper Flagg is probably the worst lol, opening night was crazy
Yo I like to see that. He’s just gonna be going at mfs attacking the basket.
