How De’Aaron Fox is helping Spurs prepare for training camp

San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox (4) reacts to a play during Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Training camp for the Spurs doesn’t start until the last week of September, but a few of the players are getting a head start by working out at De’Aaron Fox’s home in Houston.
Superstar Victor Wembanyama, free agent acquisition Tobias Harris and veteran forward Harrison Barnes have joined the All-Star guard for two-a-day practices, per a social media video released by the team on its official X account.
“Training camp can’t be the first time getting together as a team,” Fox said. “You are going to be behind and trying to be playing catch up. So just being able to do these things, to get (a few guys) together, it allows you get a little bit ahead.”
Harris’ presence is noteworthy after the defending Western Conference champions signed him this summer to add veteran depth and scoring to its frontcourt.

“It’s great for Tobias to be here, getting to know people,” Fox said.
Harris, 34, spent the past two NBA campaigns in Detroit. He averaged 13.3 points and 5.5 rebounds while starting 63 games last season before signing a two-year, $31 million contract with the Spurs.
“I always believe that iron sharpens iron,” Harris said of the informal workouts at Fox’s court.
The practices aren’t the first time this offseason Spurs players have gathered outside of San Antonio to work out together.
In early August, the Spurs posted a photo of Wembanyama alongside Harris and six players who lost in five games to the New York Knicks in the Finals last season: Barnes, Fox, Carter Bryant, Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper and Jordan McLaughlin.
