Ten dates worth circling on the Spurs’ new schedule

San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle (5) defends against New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson (11) during Game 5 of the NBA Finals at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
As Victor Wembanyama left the Frost Bank Center for the final time last season, in the wake of the Spurs’ Game 5 defeat against the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals, he knew the paradox that awaited him. It was going to be a short summer that somehow felt interminable.
“What I’m pissed about is that there’s probably 100 games before we can get back to the Finals,” Wembanyama said then. I’m going to have to hold that inside of me and wait.”
Here is a look at some of the land mines and potholes Wembanyama and the Spurs must navigate in the season to come as they look to make good on a goal that narrowly eluded them in June:
1. A season-opening grudge match
The Spurs get their NBA Finals push kicked off with a bang, opening Oct. 20 at home against Oklahoma City in the renewal of a blossoming Western Conference rivalry. The Spurs bested the Thunder, then the defending champions, four times in five meetings during the regular season before bouncing them from the conference finals in a thrilling seven-game series. Led by two-time league MVP Shai-Gilgeous Alexander, OKC could certainly use a breakthrough in the season curtain-raiser.
2. An early-season race up I-35
The Spurs have made an annual trek to the Moody Center in Austin part of their annual calendar, playing a pair of games on the University of Texas campus in each of the past four seasons. This year, the Spurs will add a third Austin date — this one the second game of the season against Houston on Oct. 23. Not only does this tilt mark the return Rockets forward Kevin Durant to his old UT stomping grounds, it also puts the Spurs smack dab in the middle of a super-sized sports weekend in the state capital – with the city also hosting the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas and a Longhorns football game against Mississippi.
3. Ant-Man for Halloween
Halloween brings Minnesota and All-Star guard Anthony Edwards to the Frost Bank Center. The Spurs will hope for more treats than tricks in a rematch of last season’s Western Conference semifinal series.
4. Christmas in New York, again
For the second time in three years, the Spurs will head to New York for a Christmas Day extravaganza against the Knicks. This time around, the Spurs will have revenge on their minds. It will be Spurs’ first time facing Jalen Brunson and Co. since New York bested them in the NBA Finals.
5. A New Year’s double-dip
The holiday season will be a busy one for the Spurs. In addition to their Christmas appearance, the Spurs are set for a New Year’s Eve date in Charlotte. They might want to go easy on the champagne after that one, as the Spurs are also slated to ring in 2027 the next day with a New Year’s Day game at Washington.
6. Bonjour, Paris! (And England)
The NBA wasn’t able to keep Wembanyama away from France for long. After a one-year hiatus, the Spurs are set to return to Paris for a Jan. 14 meeting with New Orleans. On Jan. 17, the Spurs will face the Pelicans again, this time in Manchester. It’s a long way to go for a pair of Southwest Division contests. Sacre bleu!
7. Let’s rodeo!
Broken up by the NBA All-Star break and a pair of designated “home games” in Austin, the Rodeo Road Trip isn’t the bear it used to be. The fact remains, however, the Spurs won’t step foot in the Frost Bank Center from Feb. 7 through Feb. 26. This year’s rodeo trip takes the Spurs to Dallas, Oklahoma City, Orlando, Miami, Memphis and Minnesota before the All-Star hiatus. They return for games against Memphis and Denver in Austin before finishing the trek at Denver and Houston.

8. A Finals rematch
The last time the Knicks visited the Frost Bank Center, they celebrated a championship on the Spurs’ home floor. It is likely the Spurs will not have forgotten that party at their expense with New York makes its lone regular-season appearance in San Antonio on March 7. By then, perhaps the team will have fumigated the smell of Jeremy Sochan’s victory cigar from the building.
9. Farewell to The King?
At age 41 and entering his 24th NBA season, LeBron James is almost certainly, (probably? maybe?) entering his final season in the league. If this is truly King James’ swan song — in a Philadelphia jersey, no less — the last chance to catch him at the Frost Bank Center will be March 11. That’s when the 76ers make their only regular-season visit to San Antonio.
10. Hunker down at home
The Spurs will spend almost all of February and a good bit of March on the road. The payoff for that comes during the home stretch of the season, which the club finishes with six of eight games at the Frost Bank Center. Beginning March 29 and running through the April 11 season-ender against Portland, the Spurs will leave down only once – for a game against the Clippers and one against the Lakers in Los Angeles. It is a good set-up for a Spurs team likely to still be jockeying for playoff positioning.
