2月21日 - 奥斯汀穆迪中心,对阵活塞 pic.twitter.com/AM0jHVKcl6— 马刺国度 (@Spurs_Nation) 2024年8月15日

Dates to know as San Antonio Spurs schedule unveiled
Spurs fans felt dunked on by Whataburger for the chain cheering on the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder on social media instead of Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.
The last time the world saw Spurs star Victor Wembanyama on a basketball court, he was crying.
The French star had just fallen short in his bid to unseat the favored United States squad at the Olympics in his hometown of Paris last week. When the final horn came, so did the tears.
Once they dried, Wembanyama left Paris with a warning.
“I am learning,” Wembanyama told the Express-News not long after Saturday’s game. “And I’m worried for the opponents in the next couple of years.”
With the 2024-25 NBA schedule officially unsealed Thursday, teams across the league can learn the order in which they are all in for big trouble.
First up, the Dallas Mavericks.
The Spurs are set to open Wembanyama’s second NBA season with an Oct. 24 game on the road against the defending Western Conference champion Mavs.
It is the second season in a row the Spurs have begun against Dallas. Wembanyama made his NBA debut in a 126-119 loss against Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and Co. at the Frost Bank Center last October.
This year’s curtain-raiser against Dallas comes with the added intrigue of being 12-time All-Star and longtime Spurs nemesis Chris Paul’s first regular-season game with the club. It will be broadcast on TNT, one of 21 Spurs games slated to be nationally televised.
Here are some other dates and events worth circling on the Spurs’ upcoming schedule, including a trip overseas to Wembanyama’s stomping grounds, a well-timed return to Austin and one of the stranger rodeo road trips in history:
Full ‘24-25 Spurs schedule
Notable games
Oct. 24 - Season opener at Mavs
Oct. 26 - Home opener vs Rockets
Nov. 15 - NBA Cup opener vs LAL
Jan. 23/25- Paris Games vs Pacers
Feb. 3 - RRT opener at Memphis
Feb. 20 - vs Suns at Moody Center (Austin)
Feb. 21 - vs Pistons at Moody pic.twitter.com/AM0jHVKcl6— Spurs Nation (@Spurs_Nation) August 15, 2024
The home opener
It will be a Texas-heavy start to the season for the Spurs. Two days after the opener in Dallas, the Spurs’ will play the first home game of the season with an Oct. 26 tilt against Houston at the Frost Bank Center. The Spurs face the Rockets again at home on Oct. 28, getting all of Houston’s visits to San Antonio out of the way early.
LeBron’s last ride?
The legendary LeBron James has not given an inkling as to whether this might be his final NBA season, but given the fact he turns 40 this year, fans across the league would be wise not to see the Los Angeles Lakers star while he’s still around. If this is indeed LeBron’s last go-round, his final scheduled games in San Antonio would be Nov. 15 and Nov. 27.

Jingle Bells in the Big Apple
Call it the Wembanyama Effect. The Spurs are back on the NBA’s prestigious Christmas Day slate after an eight-year hiatus with a Dec. 25 in New York against the Knicks. Bonus points for any enterprising Photoshoppers who want to pose Wemby next to the Rockefeller Center tree.
New Years Eve with Kawhi
Before popping the champagne on the 2024 calendar year, Spurs fans can head to the Frost Bank Center for a Dec. 31 tipoff against the Los Angeles Clippers. The last time the Clippers were in the building, Spurs fans spent so much time booing prodigal son Kawhi Leonard that Gregg Popovich felt compelled to tell them to stop. May old acquaintance be forgot indeed.
In-Season Madness!
For the second year in a row, the NBA will host an In-Season Tournament, now rechristened the Emirates Cup. The Spurs’ Nov. 15 home game against the Lakers counts as part of the Group Stage play of the tourney. Other group stage games include a Nov. 19 home contest against Oklahoma City, and road games Nov. 26 at Utah and Dec. 3 at Phoenix.
Greet the MVP
The NBA’s reigning Most Valuable Player will make one and only appearance in San Antonio this season. Nikola Jokic – winner of three of the past four Michael Jordan Trophies – brings his Denver Nuggets to the Frost Bank Center on Jan. 4.
Bonjour, Paris
Perhaps the signature piece of the Spurs’ schedule involves a late January trip to Wembanyama’s hometown of Paris. The Spurs face Indiana at Paris’ Accor Arena in a pair of games Jan. 25 and Jan. 27. Each team forfeits a home game in its own market to make the overseas extravaganza happen. Bonus points for any enterprising Photoshoppers who want to pose Wemby next to the Eiffel Tower.

Let’s rodeo … Austin?
For the third consecutive season, the Spurs will travel up Interstate-35 for a pair of “home” games in Austin. The timing of this year’s trip to the University of Texas’ Moody Center, however, features a welcome change. Whereas earlier visits to Austin came in March or April, the Spurs will make this year’s trek part of the annual rodeo road trip with a back-to-back Feb. 20 against Phoenix and Feb. 21 against Detroit. Worth noting: This is the Suns’ sole road meeting with the Spurs this season, so fans hoping to see Phoenix star Kevin Durant will have to do so in his old college stomping grounds in Austin.
As for the rest of the trip …
Thanks to the addition of the two Austin games, the Spurs play 12 consecutive away from the Frost Bank Center in February and March. The trek begins Feb. 3 in Memphis before hitting Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando, Washington and Boston before the All-Star break. The Spurs return from the breather with the back-to-back in Austin then resume the rodeo trip with a pair of games at New Orleans and one in Houston before finishing the trek where it started in Memphis on March 1.
A rodeo trade-off
In exchange for a February spent mostly on the road, the Spurs have an opportunity to hunker down at home during the month of March. The team plays nine of 11 games at home from March 2 to March 21, with the only road trip being a geographically challenged two-gamer to Sacramento and Minnesota.
Bring on the champs
The defending champion Boston Celtics make their lone appearance in San Antonio on March 29. If nothing else, it should be a good opportunity for former Spur Derrick White to show off his championship ring.
The final kick
There’s no telling where the Spurs will be in the standings coming down the homestretch, but if things go to plan they could be at least fighting for a berth in the play-in tournament. The late-season schedule does them no favors there, with five of the final seven games coming on the road. That includes a rather taxing four-game trip to Portland, the L.A. Clippers, Golden State and Phoenix before returning home to conclude the regular season April 13 against Toronto.
