Wembanyama’s turnover came after the Spurs overcame a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to put themselves in position to even the series.
“That’s the most frustrating thing, to throw it away after putting in all this work,” said Wembanyama, who scored 10 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth period. “What did I think? Urgency at this point. It’s like (the) body reacts quicker than the mind.”
Castle said he wasn’t expecting Wembanyama to pass him the ball.
“I was looking at him when he first got the rebound,” Castle said. “I just started to take off to try to give him some space to dribble up the court. I didn’t see him throw it to me.”
Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox said he had a clear view of the play.
“As soon as he passed it, I saw Steph wasn’t ready or wasn’t looking for the ball,” Fox said. “Those things happen. There were a lot of things that led up to that point that we could have avoided. Even after that, that was before Vic’s last shot, and we still gave ourselves a chance to win. I don’t know if we would say we deserved to win that game, but we were in that game and we had a chance.”
