It’s a shame that we didn’t acquire him in the summer of 2017 after his first stint on the clippers came to a close. Chris Paul would have been the perfect Gregg Popovich point guard and would have given Kawhi the help needed—we were never going to win the chip with Kawhi and LA as our two best players.
The reports, at the time, were that his preferred destinations were San Antonio and Houston, and the two parties had shown mutual interest.

Yeah I remember that. We were very close to getting him. Then it didn’t happen and we used that cap space to re-sign Gasol and Mills. Gasol was ready to accept a paycut if Paul landed in San Antonio.
