Going honking to celebrate after a Spurs playoff win is a decades-old San Antonio tradition — and according to a Thursday report from KSAT’s Avery Everett, it also might be a great way to damage your car horn.
First-time honker Kaidon Mattison said his car horn “just gave out” while celebrating the Spurs’ Game 3 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves: “It was my first time going honking,” he told the outlet. “(I) got about halfway through (Commerce Street), and my horn just gave out on me.”
Everett said Mattison’s horn sounded like a low “clown horn.”

While it’s unknown whether the damage to Mattison’s vehicle was a direct result of going honking for the Spurs, auto repairman Erik Garcia Jr. told KSAT he’s been getting calls about similar issues as the Spurs continue their NBA playoff run.
“What people are doing after the games while celebrating, is they’re really mashing (into the steering wheel) and breaking all the components in there,” he said.
Garcia, who owns Erik’s Automotive on 1402 W. Commerce St., simply suggests gently using the palm of your hand to press into your car horn while going honking. Otherwise, you may risk the well-being of your vehicle — and your wallet — with damage that could cost anywhere from hundreds to thousands of dollars to fix.
