Castle averaged 24.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 3.0 steals in 26.7 minutes while shooting 63% from the field and 36.4% from 3-point range in leading the Spurs to a 3-0 record and earning the first Player of the Week honor of his career.
He punctuated the week with the second triple-double of his career, producing 12 rebounds, 12 assists and two steals to go along with his career-high 40 points in the rout of the Mavericks.
And he made it all look so easy, his teammates said.
“Just the fact that he didn’t do anything different,” De’Aaron Fox said when asked what he liked most about Fox’s monster outing. “He was aggressive, but he continued to play in the flow of offense. They started the game trying to have their big on him. He got off of it, he set screens, and then that just opened the game up for him.”
The performance placed Castle in some elite company. He joined Wilt Chamberlain as the only players in NBA history to notch a 40-point triple-double while shooting at least 75% from the field. He also joined Spurs great David Robinson as the only players in franchise history to record a 40-point triple-double.
Robinson was a face in the crowd at the game, witnessed by a sellout crowd of 18,617 at the Frost Bank Center.
“He’s a big part of this franchise,” Castle said of the Admiral. “What he did for this organization was great. So just to hear my name even alongside of his is special. I see him around the facility all the time, talk to him a couple times. So great guy. And I mean, yeah, just honored to even be in that conversation with him.”
Castle is also the third-youngest player in league history to accomplish the feat, behind only LeBron James and Luka Doncic.
Castle also had 14 points, four assists, three rebounds and two blocks in 26 minutes in a win over Oklahoma City on Feb. 4. The next night he had 18 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in just 21 minutes off the bench in a road win at Dallas.
Atlanta’s Jalen Johnson earned Player of the Week in the East.
