“I’ve been looking for a reason to do it,” Johnson said.
Johnson considered shaving his head last week, but thought better when he realized the Spurs had a handful of nationally televised games on the docket.
When the Spurs’ team plane landed after the most recent of those outings in Oklahoma City, Johnson decided it was time.
He got an assist from his tallest teammate. Not only did Wembanyama encourage Johnson to go through with the extreme haircut, the 7-foot-4 Frenchman volunteered to join him.
"Vic was like, "Yo, let’s bald our head.’ " Johnson said. "And I was like, ‘Let’s do it.’ "
When it came time to go full cue ball, the Spurs duo took matters into their own hands.
First Wembanyama shaved Johnson’s head. Then Johnson returned the favor.
In fit of shear lunacy, add barber skills to the list of things Wembanyama can apparently do.
“He did good,” Johnson said. "He was quick with it. No lie. Vic probably took like three minutes. I’m like, ‘Wow.’ "

Johnson was less enamored with his own handiwork. Wembanyama came out of physical game against the Thunder with a lump on his head, making the going slower on the big man’s dome.
“I was trying to make sure everything went smooth, take my time,” Johnson said. “You know what I’m saying? I had to fade it up a little bit at first. Then I gave him a little bowl cut and then we went from there.”
Nevertheless, thanks to Johnson’s razor, Wembanyama will arrive at the Frost Bank Center for Thursday night’s game now standing 7-3¾.
It is not the first time Wembanyama has gone full bald. He also shaved his head during the summer, after visiting with Shaolin monks in China.
It did not take Johnson long into Thursday morning’s shootaround session to determine the downside to his new 'do.
“This is the first time my head had been sweating,” he said.
